News has emerged on Friday that Newcastle have had a £7m bid for a centre-back turned down.

The player Newcastle have bid for is Brighton’s Dan Burn. Burn has been on Brighton’s books since 2019 when he joined from Wigan.

Burn has featured on 85 occasions for the Seagulls and continues to be a key part of Graham Potter’s backline, even being named captain for one league game this term.

So, it is not too surprising to see BBC’s Simon Stone report that Brighton turned down the £7m bid for Burn, which is way off what the south coast outfit value the 29-year-old at:

Burn is just the latest in a long line of central defenders to see himself catch the eye of Newcastle.

One of the main targets of the Magpies this month was Diego Carlos. Carlos had been linked with Newcastle for much of the January window, with it reported that Newcastle had seen €25m and €35m bids for Carlos rejected.

However, news then emerged earlier this week which claimed Sevilla have told Newcastle they would not be selling the Brazilian this month.

Since then, a number of new names, including West Ham’s Issa Diop and Jeremiah St.Juste have been linked this week.
