The governor of Sudan’s Darfur region on Monday called for the urgent protection for civilians in El-Fasher, after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces claimed to have seized the last army stronghold in Darfur following an 18-month siege that left the city cut off, devastated, and on the brink of famine.
