Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Monday informed mediators Qatar and Egypt that the Palestinian militant group had accepted their proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza after nearly seven months of war. Details of the ceasefire were not immediately released and Israel has yet to officially respond. The news came hours after the Israeli army told around 100,000 residents of a few Rafah neighbourhoods to evacuate ahead of a planned offensive in the southern Gaza city.
