In Niger, despite economic sanctions and threats of military intervention over the past 16 days, the coup leaders have shown no sign of releasing the detained president and restoring the democratic government. The Ecowas group of West African leaders met in Abuja yesterday to work out what to do, overnight they’ve declared that a stand by military force is being assembled to restore constituional order. Ecowas is still saying it hopes for a diplomatic solution. Europe and the US have reiterated calls to find a peaceful path to resolve this.
