Candidates in Gabon have until Sunday 16th July to submit their candidature files for the general elections. Latecomers have been given a further 5 days to complete their applications. For the presidential elections alone, some fifteen candidates are in the starting-block. Ali Bongo Ondimba has been in power for 14 years and is standing for re-election for a third term. Facing the outgoing head of state will be both an opposition seeking unity and a presidential majority lacking cohesion. FRANCE 24’s correspondents reports.
