Premier League giants Chelsea are set to continue their summer shopping spree in the wake of new owner Todd Boehly taking the reins from former chief Roman Abramovich after agreeing to terms for French international defender Jules Koundé.

Koundé, 23, has long been on the Chelsea radar screen ever since last summer under Champions League-winning boss Thomas Tuchel targeted Koundé as the Blues looked to build on their Champions League win, and nearly captured the Frenchman in January before the deal broke down.

Per reports in The Sun, the Blues have agreed to a deal for Koundé while winning the sprint to his signature ahead of Spanish giants Barcelona, with the Stamford Bridge outfit set to pay an initial £51million up front with an additional £4million in add-ons to come.

The Paris native could be set to join the Chelsea squad for the remainder of their US tour with the deal said to be ’99 percent complete’ with just the final touches remaining.

It has been a whirlwind week of transfers for the west London club after the club swooped for England star Raheem Sterling as well as SSC Napoli’s Senegalese stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly.

Chelsea could also be in line to secure another blockbuster move for Dutch international star Frenkie de Jong (read more in the link below) as Boehly has come into the fold at the head of the capital club intent on building a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League as early as possible.

Should no unforeseen issues arise, Koundé would be the last piece of a potentially vaunted center-back trio comprised of Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva, Koulibaly, and himself as Tuchel looks to continue with a back-three deployment in the 2022-23 season.
