Arsenal and Manchester United have been handed a boost in any potential deal for Youri Tielemans this summer, as Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the Belgian is no closer to signing a new deal at the King Power Stadium this summer.

Tielemans has just 12 months left to run on his current deal in the Midlands, and is widely expected to depart this summer. Arsenal were thought to be leading the race for his signature, though whether the impending arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko changes this is unclear.

Meanwhile, Manchester United were also credited with an interest in the 25-year-old midfielder, who has racked up over 100 Premier League appearances for the Foxes, scoring 18 goals in that time.

Now, Rodgers has admitted that his star could leave this summer, with Tielemans no closer to signing a new contract at Leicester and the Foxes keen not to lose the Belgian for free next summer.

Asked for an update on Tielemans’ contract negotiations at Leicester, Rodgers said: “There’s no update at all. He’s an amazing guy to work with. He’s just re-joined the club [for pre-season] and he’s pretty much the same. In training he’s very committed.

“He’s happy in his work and he’s happy at the club. But, naturally, with a year in his contract he may feel he has to look at everything for him and his family. But I certainly know he’s committed while he is here.

“From Youri’s perspective, he’ll continue to train and work. He’s very focused on getting himself fit and like he always is with the team, he’s a great guy to have in the squad. Until that changes, I will give everything to keep developing him and the team. There is a possibility, but we have to wait and see.”
