Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing on the signature of a member of the defensive ranks at Championship outfit Burnley, according to reports.

The Clarets star inching towards a move to Molineux? Nathan Collins.

Burnley fans will of course be well aware of the head-turning impact made by stopper Collins over the latter months of the 2021/22 campaign.

On the back of the long-term injury suffered by captain and leader Ben Mee, the youngster was tasked with stepping into a starting role at the heart of Burnley’s defence, amid the club’s efforts to stave off a late-season relegation.

And though Mike Jackson’s troops, as a collective, of course saw their efforts to do so come up short, Collins’ stellar individual form went on to catch the eye of rival clubs across the Premier League landscape.

To this point, Leeds United and Newcastle had been tipped as the frontrunners to take advantage of Burnley’s slip from the top tier courtesy of a swoop for the club’s highly-regarded up-and-coming defender.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday evening is anything to go by, then it is the aforementioned Wolves who appear to have positioned themselves at the front of the queue for Collins.

As per a report from the Daily Telegraph, the transfer team at Molineux are in ‘advanced talks’ with their Burnley counterparts, over a move for the Republic of Ireland international.

This comes after the former agreed to fork over a considerable fee in the region of £20.5 million for his services.

Though a deal has not yet been fully agreed upon, talks are ‘progressing well’, with Collins’ Premier League return potentially set to be made official as early as this week.
