An altogether head-turning statistic surrounding the attacking production of Chelsea star Mason Mount across the campaign to date has come to the fore on Saturday.

Mount, as expected, was afforded his latest start this afternoon, as Thomas Tuchel’s Blues made the trip to St. Mary’s for a Premier League meeting with Southampton.

Chelsea headed into proceedings in desperate search of a bounce-back result, in a bid to build confidence ahead of their crunch Champions League quarter-final 2nd-leg trip to Spanish giants Real Madrid next week.

And to say that, thus far, the day’s visitors look set for precisely that would be something of an understatement.

A rip-roaring opening 45 minutes at St. Mary’s currently sees Tuchel and co. in possession of a head-turning 4-0 advantage, owing to goals on the part of all of Marcos Alonso, Mason Mount, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Salah levelled

And, as alluded to above, in the process of cruising out to an unassailable lead on the south coast, one member of Chelsea’s squad secured for himself an altogether impressive season benchmark.

As per statisticians Opta, Mason Mount, owing to his exploits this afternoon, has now racked up both a goal and an assist in the same Premier League outing on no fewer than five occasions across the season to date.

This marks the joint-most of any player in the division, alongside Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Just the latest testament to Mount’s often underappreciated abilities in the final third…
