Mikel Arteta’s decision to completely exclude Mesut Ozil from his Arsenal setup is once again front and centre after a second manager has decided to do the same.

Ozil was dropped from the Arsenal squad, and excluded from their Premier League and Europa League panels for ‘footballing reasons’, as the Gunners went on a horrific run of form at the beginning of the 2020/21 season.

And many fans questioned the absence of the German, especially given the club’s inability to score goals, with the capital club having sat in 15th place in the Premier League table before a Boxing Day win over Chelsea set them on an upwards trajectory before eventually finishing 8th.

Mikel Arteta vindicated? Mesut Ozil dropped from Fenerbahce squad in latest saga

By that point, Mesut Ozil was gone, having joined Fenerbahce on a free transfer in the January window, ending speculation about a fallout between player and manager.

Now, however, history has repeated itself as Ozil has once more found himself excluded from a squad, this time with the Super Lig side, it has been confirmed.

In a statement on social media, the club explained:

‘Our first team Football players Mesut Özil and Ozan Tufan were excluded from the squad it has been decided.’

Ozil has been a regular feature for Fener until this point, contributing 2 goals and 8 assists in 22 Super Lig appearances so far this campaign. However, Football.London report that ‘due to a verbal altercation with the club’s interim manager’, the 33-year-old has been suspended.

Whether he plays again for the Turkish outfit remains to be seen.
