Eric Dier has claimed that this season is his best personal campaign in a Tottenham shirt, as he has cemented his position in the heart of Antonio Conte’s side.

The English defender has not been selected for the England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Ivory Coast and Switzerland, meaning that he will be unable to add to his 45 Three Lions caps this break, but despite this setback the 28 year old still believes that this is the best he has performed since he moved from Portugal to join Tottenham in 2014.

Eric Dier claims he is having ‘best season so far’ under Antonio Conte in Champions League battle

‘I feel for me this is consistently my best season I have had so far at Tottenham. Overall [not just as a centre-back]’, he told the Daily Mail.

‘I don’t think I’ve ever shown the consistency in the performances that I have shown this season and I feel like my football is the best it has been in my opinion.

‘It is always very nice when a manager, especially one like him, says those things, it gives me a lot of confidence, but the thing I pay most attention to from his words are that I have a lot of space for improvement and I think that is really the thing he says that I focus on the most.
‘I want to fill that space, fill that potential, as much as possible, as much as he thinks possible.’

Dier key to Tottenham’s top 4 hopes?

Should Spurs finish in 4th place come the end of the season, Dier will have been a major part of it.

He has formed a brilliant relationship with Christian Romero in Tottenham’s back 3, and is often able to cover the Argentine, who prefers to advance with the ball and leave his centre-back berth.

Whether Dier can continue to improve in line with Conte’s demands, or if he will be moved aside in the summer, remains to be seen.

For now, however, he is a key cog in the Lilywhite machine.
