Mikel Arteta has spoken out about Arsenal’s summer transfer plans.

The Gunners have been pretty successful in the market of late. They spent big in the summer but all the signings seemed to have, so far, worked out well.

Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu have greatly improved the Gunners’ defence, whilst Martin Odegaard is having a sensational campaign further forward.

Elsewhere, Nuno Tavares provides solid cover for Kieran Tierney and looks to have a bright future, whilst Albert Sambi Lokonga is a decent prospect.

Now, when speaking recently, Arteta has dropped some hints over Arsenal’s transfer plans going forward, appearing to hint that he wants two players, with the age of one player not really a priority:

“There are certain things that we have to achieve in the summer that are not always especially age-related, but things we want to add to the squad,” he said.

“When we find that player, maybe the top priority won’t be the age in that position. Maybe in another one, yes.”

Where do Arsenal need to improve?

The two main areas Arsenal need to improve upon are at centre-forward and in central midfield.

The Gunners are currently set to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah for nothing this summer, whilst they could do with some fresh legs in midfield also – especially if Arsenal are playing in Europe again next season, which currently seems likely.

Given the importance of having a top goalscorer and the fact Arsenal already have a fairly decent midfield, perhaps Arteta will disregard age when looking at a no.9.
