Antonio Conte has been speaking about Dele Alli ahead of the midfielder’s first return to Tottenham following his winter move to Everton.

Alli had been struggling for form since the end of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign and, after failing to impress under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte for a short period, Alli was sold to Everton in January after making just three Premier League appearances under the Italian.

Tottenham are now set to face Everton on Monday evening but, rather than worrying Alli could exact his revenge on Spurs, Conte suggested that when players usually leave a side he is in charge of, they go down, not up:

“I don’t remember a player that when he went away, came back with a great spirit of revenge,” Conte said.

“Honestly, I don’t remember one. During my coaching, I always try to be honest with the players and give all the players the possibility to show me that they deserve to play. I don’t remember a player that had their revenge with me. What happens usually is that when players went away they went down, not up.”

Tottenham vs Everton

Tottenham fans will be very much hoping this is indeed the case as Spurs really need a win vs the Toffees to keep pace with the Europe-chasing teams.

Tottenham have slipped down to 7th in the Premier League ahead of kick-off on Monday. However, they do have three games in hand on West Ham and Manchester United, with two wins from three enough to ensure the Lilywhites overtake said duo.

However, their hopes of earning Champions League football have hit something of a wall, with 4th-place Arsenal six points clear of Spurs having played the same number of games.
