Manchester City have released a statement following video footage circulated of young star Phil Foden and his family being abused at an event on Saturday night.
Foden and his teammates fell to a late defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the late kick-off of the Premier League, thanks to a brace from Harry Kane, who was of course keen to join the Citizens in the summer transfer window last year.
And, hours later, Foden was attending the boxing match between Amir Khan and Kell Brook with members of his family when he was abused by a group of men, who members of his entourage subsequently got into a fight with.
So let’s just imagine your Mum being punched by a complete stranger while you’re trying to enjoy your night at the boxing and then people saying oh naughty Phil Foden got himself in a fight. What a bizarre country we live in #mcfc pic.twitter.com/dPfRAl6nsU

As the footage shows, it escalated from insults to someone throwing a fire extinguisher in approximately 90 seconds.
What the club said
Manchester City have come out strongly in defence of their talent, who has played 18 times in the English top flight this season.
‘The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused’ a spokesperson said. ‘We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil’s family members.’
‘We will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need.’
It remains to be seen just what the fallout of the footage will be.
