Newcastle United may have just been handed a boost in their pursuit of a technical director, as one has suddenly become available.
The Magpies were keen on a move for Marc Overmars, then Ajax technical director, to come and take control of their transfer dealings following the takeover of the PIF in October, but the Dutchman turned down the link.
He is now available, but in disgrace rather than out of any particular affiliation to Newcastle, after he was let go by Ajax for messaging female members of staff, according to an official statement.

Dan Ashworth to join Newcastle
But, there has been a breakthrough elsewhere, in the form of Brighton’s technical director Dan Ashworth. The head of Brighton’s recruitment, which has been stellar in recent years, has resigned from his post, prompting speculation that he may be about to take up a role on Tyenside.

An official statement read:
‘Dan Ashworth has resigned from his position as technical director to take a similar role at another Premier League club.
Former Everton and Rangers player and Scotland international David Weir becomes the club’s acting technical director with immediate effect, having recently been promoted to assistant technical director.
In line with his contractual terms, Ashworth will now begin an extended period of gardening leave, after which he will be able to take up a new position elsewhere.’
