Newcastle have launched a 10 million pound offer to take Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard on loan for the remainder of the season.

This comes as per 90min’s Graeme Bailey, and would effectively end Lingard’s Manchester United career, with the England international now in the final 6 months of his contract in the north-west.

Following a successful loan spell at West Ham in the second half of the 2020-21 season, Lingard opted to stay in Manchester and fight for his place.

However, he has not been favoured by either Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or new boss Ralf Rangnick, and has amassed just 88 minutes in the Premier League this season. With a World Cup on the horizon, a move could be the boost he needs to get back into the England squad, which he was on the fringes of ahead of the Euro 2020 tournament in July.

Will Lingard move?

It is no exaggeration to say that a signing akin to Lingard, to take some of the goalscoring burden away from the strikers, could keep Newcastle afloat this season as Joe Willock did last season.

However, it is unclear whether Lingard himself is keen on the move, somewhat bizarrely.

While it is “only” Newcastle, it offers him a chance to kickstart his career again, putting himself in the shop window for when he becomes a free agent in the summer, as is the likely outcome.

From an outsiders perspective, it appears a no brainer.
