Ghana vs Comoros

Ghana would play out their final 2022 African Cup of Nations group stage clash on Tuesday evening.

The Black Stars had a poor start to the tournament, drawing 0-0 with Gabon and losing to Morocco.

As a result, Ghana needed to at least secure one point on Tuesday to be in with a chance of being put into the 3rd place playoffs.

And, on paper, a win over Comoros seemed pretty likely, despite Ghana’s woes.

Comoros are currently ranked as the 132nd best team in the world by FIFA, they had also never competed at the AFCON before this year.

Despite this, Comoros would take the lead in Tuesday’s game after just four minutes via El Fardou Ben.

Andre Ayew was then shown a straight red card for Ghana after 25 minutes. To compound Ghana’s woes, Ahmed Mogni made it 2-0 shortly after the hour-mark, seemingly killing off Ghana’s hopes of securing a result on the day.

To their credit, 10-man Ghana would fight back and bring the score back on level terms through goals from Richmond Boakye and Alexander Djiku.

However, Ghana were once again pegged back after 85 minutes as Mogni netted his second of the day:

Thomas Partey set for Arsenal return

The result means Ghana finish dead bottom of their group with one point.

A big blow for the country yes, but it will likely please Arsenal as Thomas Partey is now set to return much earlier than most expected.

The Gunners are really short in midfield due to Mohamed Elneny being at the AFCON and Granit Xhaka being suspended, so Partey’s return will come as a huge boost.

And though the League Cup tie with Liverpool on Thursday will likely come too soon, could Partey return vs Burnley at the weekend?
