Chelsea need midfield additions

Chelsea are in need of midfield additions come the summer.

N’Golo Kante, though still one of the best players in the division, is now 30 years old and will not be able to continue at the top level forever.

Meanwhile, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are both good options, but beyond that questions are asked, with the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley and loanee Saul Niguez the potential replacements should the aforementioned three be struck by injury or illness.

Of course, one of those options could be returning midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has impressed while on loan at Crystal Palace this season.

But there is still the feeling that they need more, with the likes of Declan Rice and Aurelien Tchouameni both touted as options.

And now, a Barca man could come into the frame.

Chelsea target Frenkie de Jong?

Now, as per a report in El Nacional, Chelsea are keen on a move for Frenkie de Jong, who has been cleared to leave Barcelona in the coming transfer windows as the Blaugrana look to raise funds for further transfer business.

The Spanish outlet claims that Chelsea have tabled an opening offer of around 40 million euros for the Dutchman, who doesn’t seem to have a future at the Camp Nou with the breakthroughs of Gavi and Pedri.

However, it is thought that Barca are keen to hold out for closer to 50 million euros (42 million pounds), although they will sell if this offer is made should the performances of De Jong not improve.

Would he be a better option than either Rice or Tchouameni?
