Arsenal downed by Nottingham Forest

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal faced a trip to the City Ground this past Sunday for a meeting with Nottingham Forest.

The clash was a 3rd round affair in the FA Cup, and was expected to prove a straightforward outing for the Gunners, especially as Arteta still fielded a fairly strong eleven.

Nottingham Forest are currently 9th in the Championship, but have lost their last two outings.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are flying high in the Premier League, seeing off most sides with relative ease, barring the ‘top-six’.

Despite this, Arsenal put on a fairly lackluster showing across the 90 minutes and eventually lost the tie 1-0.

This leaves Arsenal with the League Cup as their only way to gain silverware this term.

How Nuno Tavares reacted to first-half sub

As mentioned above, Arsenal as a squad would put on a poor showing vs Forest.

However, Mikel Arteta seemingly believed that Nuno Tavares was the worst of the bunch early on, hooking the left-back after just 34 minutes.

In turn, Tavares was understandably not too happy when he came off the pitch:

Now though, Mikel Arteta has been asked about Tavares’ reaction to the first-half sub in his pre-Liverpool press conference.

The Spaniard, though, suggested that Tavares was not upset and he did not blame Arteta:

“Upset, and ‘the coach is wrong’ and ‘this is not fair’ – this is normally the reaction. With Nuno I didn’t get that reaction at all. For me it’s just a moment and we move on and focus on all the good things he’s done since he’s been here.”
