Arsenal set to be active in the transfer market

Arsenal are set to be busy in the transfer market this month, according to manager Mikel Arteta.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup third-round loss to Nottingham Forest, the Gunners boss said:

“With the amount of things and the way we want to evolve the squad, we have to maximize every window in many different ways,”

“We are alert. Edu and his team are working very hard because we know exactly what we need to do. Whether we can accomplish that in January or in the summer is a different question related to other stuff but we are there.

“If it is the right player and we can afford it and we can do what we want to do, we will discuss it and make the best possible decision. We are open.”

But, that is both incoming and outgoings, and at the moment it seems to be focused very much on the latter.

Defender expected to depart

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles already having departed, Sead Kolasinac is expected to follow suit. With six months left on his current deal, it will be a permanent move as opposed to a loan, which will likely net Arsenal a nominal fee offset by the probability of having to supplement his £100,000 per week wages.

Kolasinac came on for the last five minutes of the defeat to Nottingham Forest, but has only made 3 starts for the Gunners as Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares battle it out for the left-back spot.

And, with Marseilles reportedly interested, could he be set for a reunion with William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi?
