Spanish giants FC Barcelona have, on Sunday, confirmed the club’s latest untimely blow on the personnel front.

De Jong not enough

The Blaugrana of course marked their return to action just shy of 24 hours ago.

After firmly reestablishing themselves in the race for European football over the course of the last month, Xavi Hernandez’s troops made the trip to Los Carmenes, eyeing a 3rd-straight victory across all competitions at the expense of Granada.

Unfortunately, however, when all was said and done, Barca came up just short.

A hard-fought 90 minutes, across which either side could have added further to the scoreline, ultimately culminated in the visitors being forced to settle for a share of the spoils, in a 1-1 stalemate.

Luuk de Jong, for the 2nd time in the space of a week, looked set to guide Xavi and co. to all three points, after putting Barcelona ahead courtesy of a fine header just shy of the hour mark:

Granada, though, had other ideas.

Just as proceedings got set to roll into injury time at Los Carmenes, Antonio Puertas rattled home an equaliser, dealing a hefty blow to the Champions League qualification hopes of their opponents in the process:

Garcia ruled out

As alluded to above, though, Barcelona’s woes on Saturday were not restricted solely to the eventual scoreline in Andalusia.

This comes with Xavi and co. having also been dealt yet another fresh blow on the injury front.

The subject of personnel woes has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines at the Camp Nou of late, as a whole host of key performers have been forced to face up to spells on the sidelines.

And, today, yet another name – in the form of Eric Garcia – has been added to the list of walking wounded in Catalunya.

After limping out of the action at Los Carmenes clutching his right hamstring, stopper Garcia underwent a series of medical tests on Sunday morning.

And, in a blow for club and player alike, it has since been revealed that the Spanish international has indeed picked up a hamstring injury, which is likely to keep him sidelined for the coming five weeks.
