Word stemming from the English media late on Thursday night suggests that Cristiano Ronaldo’s future may lie away from Manchester United.

CR7 is back

The headline news at Old Trafford this past summer of course came in the form of Ronaldo’s remarkable return.

On the back of a 12-year spell away from the club, United, upon hearing of the Portuguese’s eagerness to depart Italian giants Juventus, showcased little hesitance in swooping to bring their prodigal son back to England.

Ronaldo’s comeback, in turn, was made official late in August:

And to say that the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner has since gone about stealing the show as only he can would be something of an understatement.

All told, across twenty one appearances back in the colours of the Red Devils, CR7 has racked up 14 goals, including a brace on his 2nd debut, a crucial last-gasp winner during a Champions League meeting with Villarreal, and key doubles versus the likes of Atalanta and Arsenal.

On the move?

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday evening is anything to go by, then Ronaldo’s first season back in United’s colours could yet mark his last.

This comes amid shock claims that the Portuguese is giving serious consideration to an Old Trafford exit this summer.

As per a report from Jeremy Cross, Chief Sports Writer at the Daily Star, Ronaldo’s future looks set to hinge on the next managerial appointment on the red half of Manchester.

If the veteran attacker does not agree with the eventual instillation in the dugout at the club ahead of next season, he could well seek out an early exit, a full year prior to the expiration of his terms at the Theatre of Dreams.

Amongst those understood to be under consideration for the role are the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers.

Significantly, it is also suggested that, though he is not currently in the running to take over the post on a permanent basis, Ronaldo has also made it clear to those in a position of power at United that he would be against Ralf Rangnick seeing his stint on the sideline extended beyond the coming summer.
