An update on the wellbeing of Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi has, on Thursday evening, been forthcoming online.

PSG struggles

Messi’s debut season in France, to date, has of course proven an altogether trying one.

After departing his beloved Barcelona for the first time in his career during the summer, the Argentine was always likely to endure a period of adaptation at the Parc des Princes.

Few, however, could have predicted just how significantly Messi’s production would go on to drop off.

Despite PSG sauntering towards another Ligue 1 title, to this point in the French top-flight campaign, the 34-year-old has managed just a solitary goal, netted in a 3-1 triumph over Nantes late in November.

It is worth noting, though, that Messi has looked considerably better on the continent, on his way to five goals in five Champions League appearances.

Lyon clash eyed

As such, it is safe to say that the last thing that the iconic attacker – recently honoured with a record 7th Ballon d’Or – needed was to be faced with a potential spell on the sidelines.

Precisely that, though, appeared on the cards earlier this week.

This came upon word surfacing online that, whilst in his home country of Argentina, Messi had returned a positive test for Covid-19.

It was, in turn, viewed as altogether likely that the former Barcelona man would be ruled out of PSG’s fast-approaching Ligue 1 showdown with Olympique Lyonnais this weekend.

But, if the latest reports stemming from France are anything to go by, then fans of the capital giants need not fret.

As per a whole host of reliable sources, Messi was permitted to resume training at PSG’s training base on Thursday, after, thankfully, testing negative for Covid-19.

The veteran, as a result, is expected to be available for selection at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday evening.
