Premier League giants Liverpool have, on Sunday afternoon, confirmed that a trio of the club’s stars have returned suspected positive tests for Covid-19.

Stamford Bridge showdown

Jurgen Klopp’s men are of course set to return to action in short order.

In the marquee fixture of the latest Premier League gameweek, the Reds have made the trip to the capital, for a crunch showdown with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

The clash marks an absolutely crucial one amid the upper echelons of the English top-flight, with both sides set to enter proceedings in the knowledge that a defeat could prove catastrophic when it comes to their title hopes.

This comes after Manchester City made it 11 league wins on the trot on Saturday, to extend their advantage at the summit to a full 11 points.

Matip amongst absentees

It therefore goes without saying that Jurgen Klopp was no doubt hopeful of having as many of his star performers as possible fit and available to feature from the off at Stamford Bridge.

But, as alluded to above, shortly before kick-off, a trio of impending absences for the clash have been confirmed.

Those set to miss out? Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Joel Matip.

As per an announcement released across Liverpool’s social media platforms a short time ago, all three have been ruled out of Sunday’s proceedings after returning ‘suspected positive tests’ for Covid-19:
