Some insight into Everton’s January transfer plans has been forthcoming online on Thursday.

Everton’s 2021/22 so far

Everton would, of course, appoint Rafa Benitez as their new boss over the summer following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.

The Spaniard arrived back on Merseyside to some anger given his connections to Everton’s bitter rivals, Liverpool.

That anger seemed to quickly wash away following the Toffees’ positive start to the campaign, though.

Everton would lose just one of their opening seven league ties this season and looked on course to be fighting for a top-seven/six spot.

However, after a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in gameweek seven, their form fell off a cliff.

Everton’s only league victory since a 2-0 win over Norwich back in September came vs Arsenal in gameweek 15.

Everton have lost seven and drawn two of their nine league outings since then, slipping down to 14th and well off the pace of the Europe-chasing sides.

Everton eye central midfielder & right-back

So, after a huge dip in form and a quiet summer window, it would probably make sense for Everton to target some fresh legs in January.

And now, as mentioned above, an insight into the Toffees’ January plans has been provided.

As per The Athletic, right-back is an area of priority for Everton, who know that they are putting too much strain on Seamus Coleman.

Elsewhere, the Merseysiders are said to want a central midfielder who can link defence and attack.

The report goes on to name four central midfielders who Rafa Benitez likes, whilst also claiming that the Spaniard will lead recruitment in the January window:

Recruitment will be led by Benitez in the upcoming window. We know he likes Monaco’s Aleksandr Golovin but the price tag could prove prohibitive. He is also an admirer of Sean Longstaff, who is out of contract at Newcastle at the end of the season. There are also whispers of interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria and Guus Til
