Arsenal could be set to lose one of their latest rising stars to London rivals Chelsea, according to reports.
Arsenal’s Khayon Edwards
That player? Khayon Edwards. Edwards is a product of Arsenal’s academy and has been impressing in their youth ranks of late.
The forward has enjoyed a superb 2021/22 campaign to date, scoring 14 times and setting up six more goals in 13 outings for Arsenal’s youth sides.
Edwards is a centre-forward by trade and this is where he plays most of his football. However, the teenager can also play on the left-wing or as an attacking midfielder.
So impressive has Edwards been of late, that Mikel Arteta has even allowed him to train with the first-team several times.
Arsenal could lose Edwards to Chelsea
Now, though, Arsenal could be set to lose the rising star, potentially to a bitter rival.
As reported by the Daily Mail:
Arsenal are facing a battle to hold onto rising strike starlet Khayon Edwards amid mounting interest from clubs in England and abroad – including London rivals Chelsea.
It is added that the Gunners are yet to agree terms over a professional deal for the 18-year-old, who is now in the final year of his scholarship deal.
This is not for the want of trying, however. The north London outfit are said to have made a number of offers to Edwards, but so far none have been successful, which, in turn, is believed to have encouraged admirers of the striker.
Losing Edwards would of course be a big blow, when taking into account just how highly he is rated.
Football.london even recently went as far as to label him ‘the next Bukayo Saka’.
