Liverpool vs Newcastle

Thursday’s late Premier League clash will see Liverpool and Newcastle go head-to-head.

Newcastle head into the tie still searching for any sort of decent form.

The Magpies did pick up a win recently. But that only came against fellow basement dwellers, Burnley.

Against any other opposition, Newcastle have looked completely hopeless, with their latest outing a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Leicester City.

Liverpool, though, are only expected to prove a sterner test than Leicester, so who knows what the score could end up at Anfield.

Newcastle to be without defender

Ahead of the tie, Eddie Howe would speak to the press on Wednesday.

When doing so, Howe discussed a number of topics in his press conference, one of which was team news.

And Howe’s update was not great for Newcastle. Paul Dummett remains sidelined whilst the North East outfit have also lost Federico Fernandez through injury, with the defender expected to miss the majority of the festive period:

“Paul Dummett is still out long term, although he’s making good progress. We’ve lost Federico Fernández through injury. We’re not sure of the extent, but he’ll miss this game and the majority over the festive period.”
