Ralph Rangnick has confirmed that all five players who missed the 3-2 win over Norwich will also play no part in their clash with Liverpool.

Raphael Varane is the closest, having returned to fitness training, but none have been able to train due to their various ailments.

It means that Fred, Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani will all miss the showdown with Quadruple chasing Liverpool at Anfield, which also means that Paul Pogba, booed off at Old Trafford at the weekend, is almost certain to start against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Can United derail Liverpool’s title charge?

The clash is a mammoth event for both sides, with Manchester United’s win in their last game throwing them firmly back into the race for the top 4. Should they beat the Reds, and follow it up with victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend, they will have a strong grip on the spot.

Better yet for some Red Devil fans, they would help derail Liverpool’s hunt for the quadruple, with their oldest rivals having to be perfect for the final run in and hope that Manchester City slip up in order to have any chance of snatching the Premier League title away from Manchester.

On the other hand, defeat to Liverpool and failure to get a result against Arsenal at the weekend would represent a major swing of fortunes for Ralf Rangick and co. It could leave them as many as 6 points behind the Gunners, although 3 is more likely given that they travel to Chelsea on Wednesday. However, they would still have a game in hand.

The Red Devils need to come out of the next two games with at least something.
