A fresh update on the Chelsea FC/Roman Abramovich situation has emerged on Tuesday evening.
The headline news in the footballing world over the last few days came on February 26th when Chelsea released a statement confirming that Roman Abramovich, the billionaire owner of Chelsea, confirmed his intention to ‘give trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC’.

The statement above comes amidst Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Abramovich, as per the BBC, is one of Russia’s richest people and is believed to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The BBC also added at the time that it was not known yet if Abramovich will be sanctioned as part of the UK government’s measures against Russia.
Roman Abramovich to receive bids for Chelsea FC
Now though, it appears some are looking to try and buy the club from the Russian billionaire.
As per the Telegraph:
‘Roman Abramovich will receive bids to sell Chelsea this week with at least three parties circling the Stamford Bridge club in the belief the Russian billionaire, for the first time, will consider a sale.’
It is added that offers are being prepared to reach Abramovich by the end of this week, who has faced calls to have his assets frozen and seized, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
How much would it take for Abramovich to sell Chelsea?
The exact figure is of course unknown. However, the Telegraph report that Abramovich has previously turned down offers worth £2.2bn for Chelsea, while the club’s debt to him is £1.51bn, a fee he would almost certainly expect to be covered.
So, it is probably fair to assume that a bid of over £3.5bn would be needed to buy the club.
