\n\tDuring her speech<\/a>, the Cuban-American singer-songwriter thanked the biggest female inspiration in her life: her mother, Sinuhe Estrabao.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHighlighting her strength and ability to comfort her during difficult times, Cabello said during her acceptance speech: \u201cWhen the world is suffering, headlines that make my chest ache with news of war and death with dangerous amounts of lack of compassion, my mom reminds me that there is love in this world [\u2026] she shows me that there is hope in this world. Her best advice is not something she says but something she practices \u2014 her kindness, empathy and most importantly how she treats people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThanks to that example, the \u201cI Luv It\u201d singer \u2014 who\u2019s logged 21 career entries on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> including No. 1 hits \u201cHavana\u201d (with Young Thug) and \u201cSe\u00f1orita\u201d (with Shawn Mendes) \u2014 has learned to use her star power and platform to advocate<\/a> for topics that wholeheartedly matter to her: immigration, mental health, climate change and LGBTQ+ rights, to name a few.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt feels like it really didn\u2019t sink in until I saw that video, and saw the trajectory of my career and the journey that I\u2019ve been on in the past several years,\u201d Cabello said exclusively to Billboard <\/em>backstage after receiving her award. \u201cSeeing my parents getting emotional, and seeing things that I\u2019ve been able to do in music but also with people \u2026 my interaction with people around the world has been so fulfilling. I\u2019ve just gotten to see so much and feel really thankful that I\u2019ve gotten the opportunity that I\u2019ve gotten to interact with people.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tCabello is one of eight female artists that were honored at the second annual Billboard Latin Women in Music, including Gloria Estefan (Legend Award), Ana B\u00e1rbara (Lifetime Achievement Award), and the woman of the year, Karol G<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
