\n\tIt\u2019s been more than eight years since Rihanna\u2019s<\/a> last album, Anti<\/em>,<\/a> and the Navy is starving for any signs of life when it comes to R9.<\/em> <\/p>\n

\n\tRiRi provided a concise update regarding her current relationship with creating music in her Interview <\/a><\/em>mag cover story while chatting with former stylist Mel Ottenberg. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have a lot of visual ideas,\u201d she said, which typically isn\u2019t the start of her creative process. \u201cIt\u2019s weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I\u2019m having all of these visuals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tUnfortunately, Rihanna admitted she doesn\u2019t have the songs to accompany the visual ideas just yet, but hopefully they eventually come to fruition. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t have the songs for them yet, but maybe that\u2019s the key, this time,\u201d the \u201cWork\u201d singer teased. \u201cMaybe the visual ideas are leading me to the songs that I need to make.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe surreptitiously added: \u201cRandom ideas, quirky ideas, things that have nothing to do with me at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBack in February, A$AP Rocky teased that the nine-time Grammy winner \u2014 with whom he shares two young sons \u2014 is \u201cworking\u201d on<\/a> her <\/a>long-awaited album, but Rihanna has remained tight-lipped on the matter. \u201cShe\u2019s working on it,\u201d he said while out for Paris Fashion Week.<\/p>\n

\n\tBillboard<\/em>\u2018s Heran Mamo penned an essay in March about the sobering idea that Ri\u2019s Navy may need to come to grips with the fact she may never release another album, and that\u2019s perfectly fine after delivering eight in about a decade\u2019s time. <\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, Rihanna did make her return to the stage for her first performance<\/a> in eight years in March for a pre-wedding celebration for Anant Ambani, who is the son of Asia\u2019s richest man, and Radhika Merchant in Jamnagar, India. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe 36-year-old\u2019s most recent musical output came with a pair of singles in late 2022 for the\u00a0Black Panther: Wakanda Forever<\/em>\u00a0soundtrack. \u201cLift Me Up\u201d<\/a> served as a tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman, along with \u201cBorn Again.\u201d <\/a>The former earned Rihanna a Grammy nomination for best song written for visual media, and an Oscar nod in the best original song category.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnti <\/em>arrived in January 2016. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboad 200<\/a> in its first full week of tracking with 166,000 units in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 4.<\/p>\n
