With 2022\u2019s Renaissance<\/em> and her buzzy new Cowboy Carter<\/a><\/em> album, Queen Bey is meticulously rolling out a sprawling trilogy of releases that is sure to leave an indelible mark on popular music.<\/p>\n

\n\tLong before \u201cTexas Hold \u2018Em\u201d made history<\/a> across several Billboard<\/em> charts, Beyonc\u00e9 commenced her trilogy with the release of the Grammy-winning \u201cBreak My Soul.\u201d That thumping house anthem served as the lead single for Renaissance<\/em>, which Beyonc\u00e9 detailed as the first in a \u201cthree-act project\u201d she recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis three-act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic,\u201d she wrote in a message on her official website<\/a>. \u201cA time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative. Creating [Renaissance<\/em>] allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA kaleidoscopic m\u00e9lange of country, R&B, opera, \u201970s rock, hip-hop, Americana, house, blues, gospel and more, Cowboy Carter<\/em> has a few entry points that seamlessly segue into the Renaissance<\/em> world. In fact the end of Cowboy Carter<\/em> closer \u201cAmen\u201d transitions seamlessly into Renaissance<\/em> opener \u201cI\u2019m That Girl\u201d; the shimmering synth at the end of \u201cAmen\u201d feels like a spaceship transporting us to a world of alien superstars.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe connections don\u2019t stop there. There are several lyrical Easter eggs baked into both albums, further solidifying the relationship between the two albums. In a press release shared shortly after the album\u2019s release, Beyonc\u00e9 revealed that she \u201cwas initially going to put Cowboy Carter<\/em> out first, but with the pandemic, there was too much heaviness in the world. We wanted to dance. We deserved to dance. But I had to trust God\u2019s timing.\u201d Needless to say, Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s grand vision is coming together right in front of our eyes.<\/p>\n
