Those orchestral stabs were initially carved out on guitar, which he played in a \u201cvery bluesy type way.\u201d When Hutchence first heard the song, \u201che laughed,\u201d Farriss explains. \u201cHe thought it was funny, because for us it was so different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHutchence changed his mind. He took the demo tape, lived with it, crafted the lyrics and the melody. A hit was born. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDirector Richard Lowenstein had shot footage of Prague\u2019s medieval architecture on 8mm black and white film. The juxtaposition of those images and INXS\u2019s sublime song happened by chance. By a moment of serendipity. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe band was in the studio watching the rushes, as the song poured out of the control room. It worked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe video, which has notched more than 100 million views on YouTube, was filmed in freezing conditions in Czechoslovakia, a world away from the beaches of Sydney.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AIBv2GEnXlc?version=3&amp;rel=1&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;fs=1&amp;hl=en-US&amp;autohide=2&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe spirit of the people there is fantastic, that\u2019s what I love, it really makes you appreciate what you have so much,\u201d comments Hutchence in the five-minute behind-the-scenes video, which <em>Billboard<\/em> exclusively premieres below. The singer loved the country, and its history, though so much has changed in those three-and-a-half decades. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tINXS is no longer an active band. Hutchence is no longer with us, dying in 1997 at the age of 37. Then, in November 1989 the Velvet Revolution while led to the end of communist rule in Czechoslovakia.  Five years after the shoot, the country was separated into Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Lowenstein\u2019s music video captured a time before the rest of the world caught on. Today, the Czechia capital is a hot-spot for tourists, a destination for stag and hen parties. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThere were numerous hurdles to gain access to film in Prague at that time,\u201d INXS saxophone and guitar player Kirk Pengilly tells <em>Billboard<\/em> via email. However, \u201cbeing able to cinematically utilize the city\u2019s beautiful, romantic architecture and landmarks as a backdrop was incredibly special and fitting for this song. Our week-long stay allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the city\u2019s charm and culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cNever Tear Us Apart\u201d is a gem in INXS\u2019 catalogue, from one of the band\u2019s most successful albums, <em>Kick<\/em>, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
