\n\tThe Weeknd<\/a> compiled his first three mixtapes into one Trilogy<\/em> compilation album back in 2012, and 12 years later, he\u2019s preparing to close out the current chapter in his career with yet another trilogy.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Sunday (Jan. 7), he posted the album covers from his 2020 album After Hours <\/em>and 2022\u2019s Dawn FM<\/em> \u2014 the latter of which celebrated its second anniversary on Sunday \u2014 and a third, black slide with a white question mark in the middle and a parental advisory warning label. \u201c3,\u201d he wrote as the caption. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Canadian-Ethiopian superstar (real name Abel Tesfaye) said in his May 2023 interview with W Magazine<\/a><\/em> that his next studio album will be his final one as The Weeknd. \u201cIt\u2019s getting to a place and a time where I\u2019m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter. I\u2019ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I\u2019m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cThe album I\u2019m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I\u2019ve said everything I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s poetic to end his tenure as The Weeknd the same way he started it: In 2011, he dropped three mixtapes \u2014 House of Balloons, Thursday <\/em>and Echoes of Silence <\/em>\u2014 that were eventually remastered and repackaged into his Trilogy <\/em>compilation album, which Republic Records and his XO label released the following year. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2021, The Weeknd released the original mixtapes on streaming services on their corresponding 10-year anniversaries since the samples had finally cleared, including\u00a0Beach House<\/a>\u2018s \u201cMaster of None\u201d on \u201cThe Party & The After Party,\u201d\u00a0Siouxsie and the Banshees<\/a>\u2018 \u201cHappy House\u201d on \u201cHouse of Balloons \/ Glass Table Girls\u201d and\u00a0Aaliyah<\/a>\u2018s \u201cRock the Boat\u201d on \u201cWhat You Need.\u201d<\/p>\n
