\n\tThe question came up because Eilish is working on her third studio album and after releasing her first two in her teens, the prospect of dropping an LP in her 20s is blowing her mind. \u201cIt feels somehow very different from the rest of what I\u2019ve ever put out,\u201d she said. \u201cLike, now I\u2019m in my 20s \u2014 oh, my God, that\u2019s so weird \u2014 and I\u2019ve never been an adult putting music out before.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tSo, asked if she keeping up on the big pop records that have defined this year, Eilish ticked off SZA\u2019s SOS<\/em> as one that is \u201cgreat\u201d and Rodrigo\u2019s sophomore effort, GUTS<\/em> as \u201cadorable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\tIn fact, she also revealed for the first time that the track \u201cGoldwing\u201d from her Happier Than Ever<\/em> album was \u201ckind of\u201d inspired by Rodrigo. \u201cIt\u2019s not only about her. I was just thinking about her when I was writing it,\u201d Eilish said, adding with a laugh, \u201cShe was coming up, and she was younger than me, and nobody had ever been younger than me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\tThe song opens with some lines from a hymn Eilish used to sing as a kid in the Los Angeles Children\u2019s Chorus, before dipping into scenario that any young artist in the industry might recognize. \u201cThey\u2019re gonna tell you what you want to hear\/ Then they\u2019re gonna disappear\/ Gonna claim you like a souvenir\/ Just to sell you in a year,\u201d Billie sings on the track. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cOlivia was getting big, and she was just, like, this little dainty child,\u201d Eilish says of the former Disney star. \u201cI felt so nervous. I was worried about her. She came up in that acting world, and people are so weird. I don\u2019t know \u2014 I just felt very protective over her.\u201d Eilish said she can just \u201csee myself in all these young girls. And it\u2019s the girls, man. Boys can handle themselves. They\u2019re dudes \u2014 they don\u2019t have to deal with it like we do. I just want to hold everybody in a little glass box and never let anything touch them.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe interview also features Eilish talking about reading late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain\u2019s suicide note recently and feeling a \u201cdeep, deep sorrow\u201d for the grunge icon while also understanding Cobain\u2019s hatred of the fame machine he was enveloped in. \u201cIt\u2019s just not what you think it\u2019s going to be,\u201d she said. The reference makes sense when you realize that Cobain is an artist she and her brother\/producer Finneas often look to as a guidepost to understand the loneliness of success. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s that existential-crisis vibe where you could be sitting in a room with people you love,\u201d Eilish said, \u201cand you\u2019re like, Oh, my God, what the f\u2014 is going on with my life?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
