It was an eventful Coachella weekend for many fixtures on the Greatest Pop Stars podcast. We had headlining sets from a called-her-shot Sabrina Carpenter, a long-absent-from-performing Justin Bieber and a history-making Karol G, as well as prove-it slots for still-rising stars like Sombr, Addison Rae and PinkPantheress, and a don’t-forget-about-me appearance from Young Thug. And of course, below them on the bill, there were plenty of pop artists who haven’t made their way to the Greatest Pop Stars discussion yet — but based on their performances, might be elbowing their way in there before long.

On this Pop Star Performance Review episode of the Greatest Pop Stars podcast, we talk about how the pop stars at this year’s Coachella did in their weekend one shows. Host Andrew Unterberger is joined by fellow attendee Steven J. Horowitz — formerly of Billboard, currently of Variety — to talk about the three headliners and some of the potential future headliners, discussing what it was like to be in the desert for their sets, and whether they met their expectations or not.

Along the way, we answer the most important questions about the Greatest Pop Stars of Coachella 2026: Are we now KATSEYE believers? What the fuck was going on with that inaudible seven-minute Susan Sarandon interlude during Sabrina Carpenter’s performance? Is there such a thing as too many fireworks during a headliner’s set? How do we handicap Sombr’s chances of making his future-headliner prophecy come true? Can we believe how far PinkPantheress has come as a live performer in three years? Did we need a reminder of Young Thug’s greatness? And perhaps most importantly: What did we make of that 35-minute Justin Bieber YouTube Karaoke set?
