\n\tAs she tells Billboard<\/em> on a giggly Zoom call in late March just a few days after her 20th birthday, \u201cI put it out, and everyone was like, \u2018Oh my god\u2026 this is gut-wrenching,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cI was genuinely like, \u2018What? \n\tWith Kay\u2019s bright, earnest voice chugging the acoustic guitar-driven track\u2019s momentum forward from start to finish, \u201ciloveitiloveitiloveit\u201d is the winking lament of someone who can\u2019t escape the cycle of a slightly concerning, rollercoaster-like romance \u2014 packaged as a carefree love song in which ignoring red flags is thrilling, not self-sabotage. (\u201cI love it when we fight, and I like it when you\u2019re mean,\u201d she admits in the lyrics. \u201cWe don\u2019t have to get into what that says about me.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t look at it like, \u2018Oh, this is a toxic relationship,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cI look at it as like, \u2018Oh!\u2019<\/em>\u201d \u2014 she cheers, smiling and shaking her head wildly, as if she\u2019s in the middle of a rave \u2014 \u201c\u2018This is a toxic relationship!<\/em>\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIntentionally heartbreaking or not, the song\u2019s wide-reaching relatability and punchy lyricism launched \u201ciloveitiloveitiloveit\u201d onto the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> in February \u2014 Kay\u2019s first entry on the chart, which has since reached No. 17. It was officially released in January, but she first posted the chorus on TikTok immediately after writing it in \u201cfive minutes\u201d on her guitar in November. Within the next month, she\u2019d finished the lyrics with producer and now-frequent collaborator Alexis Kesselman and settled on its breathless, no-spaces title \u2014 despite people \u201cteasing\u201d her for it \u2014 to match the chaotic nature of the song.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe whole point is like, \u2018I shouldn\u2019t do this, but I love it,\u2019\u201d she explains with a shrug. \u201cIt has to feel stupid and crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201ciloveitiloveitiloveit\u201d came at exactly the right time for Kay. In the spring of 2025, she decided to begin regularly posting music clips on TikTok in hopes of launching a career, despite being two years into a prelaw degree at Texas A&M. \u201cI was so embarrassed,\u201d the Houston native recalls of sharing her first original song snippets on the platform. \u201cMy TikToks were getting, like, 30 likes \u2026 but I kept going.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs her fan base took off that summer \u2014 largely thanks to viral clips of her moody, stripped-down tracks \u201cLonely\u201d and \u201cThe Sick,\u201d which appear in full on her November 2025 self-released EP sick to my stomach<\/em> \u2014 she signed with Atlantic Records in July and then partnered with Immersive Management\u2019s Adam Mersel and Priscilla Felten in October.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe fire had been lit \u2014 she just needed one song to pour gasoline on the flame. Released on Jan. 11, \u201ciloveitiloveitiloveit\u201d did that in abundance, racking up nearly half a million uses on TikTok to date. \u201cWhen it started charting, I was like, \u2018This is insane,\u2019\u201d Kay says tentatively, as if she still can\u2019t quite believe it herself.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut the most fulfilling evidence, she says, is how loud her fans scream the words back at her when she sings the track at shows. Felten notes that Kay\u2019s performances have been key to the success of \u201ciloveitiloveitiloveit\u201d \u2014 particularly her series of free, intimate pop-up concerts in Los Angeles, London, Houston and more cities beginning in November.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe L.A. show in particular \u2026 even though [the song] was unreleased at that time, hearing it in that context \u2014 and the word-of-mouth that spread from there \u2014 was powerful,\u201d Felten says of the 100-capacity performance. \u201cIt was also the first time you were seeing her [in person], because everyone had just known her solely through a phone.\u201d<\/p>\n
