\n\tIt has been many years since country music was featured during the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and Luke Combs<\/a> is among those who are ready to see the genre make its comeback.<\/p>\n \n\tCombs recently made an appearance on The Zach Sang Show<\/em>, where the two discussed country music and the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n \n\tAsked if he\u2019d been pitched an opportunity to perform for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Combs responded, \u201cNo, never have.\u201d He added, \u201cHow does that even happen? I don\u2019t even really know.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tShania Twain performed during the Super Bowl Halftime Show with No Doubt and Sting in 2003, and 1994\u2019s Super Bowl Halftime Show featured a country lineup that included performances from Clint Black, The Judds, Travis Tritt and Tanya Tucker. Since then, however, country artists seem more likely to appear at the Super Bowl singing the National Anthem than headlining the Halftime Show. (Carrie Underwood, Mickey Guyton, Eric Church, Reba McEntire and Chris Stapleton have all performed \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner\u201d at the annual football event.)<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI don\u2019t really know why that is,\u201d Combs said of the lack of country performers during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. \u201cIt\u2019s not up to me. I think the people would love it. That\u2019s no pitch for me, I think it\u2019s just a pitch for country music in general, you know? Whether it\u2019s Garth (Brooks) or Morgan Wallen or whoever it is, like, somebody deserves to be up there doing the thing.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tCountry artists have become mainstays at the top of the all-genre Billboard<\/em> charts over the past few years. Combs has seen songs including \u201cForever After All\u201d and his rendition of Tracy Chapman\u2019s \u201cFast Car\u201d rise to the upper echelon of the Billboard Hot 100, while Wallen has notched Hot 100 No. 1s including \u201cLast Night,\u201d \u201cLove Somebody,\u201d \u201cI Had Some Help\u201d (with Post Malone) and \u201cWhat I Want\u201d (with Tate McRae). Most recently, Megan Moroney\u2019s album Cloud 9<\/em> debuted atop the Billboard 200, while Ella Langley holds her third week<\/a> atop the Hot 100 with \u201cChoosin\u2019 Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI think country is\u2026in the zeitgeist now. It\u2019s not a niche genre anymore,\u201d Combs said. \u201cEven 10 years ago, I would say it was. It\u2019s not anymore. I think it\u2019s undeniable how many of the top 100 streaming songs in all of music are country. A very high percentage of them now, way more so than in history, so I think it\u2019s undeniable. It\u2019s time. Whoever\u2019s having those conversations to have, I don\u2019t know, like, it\u2019s above my pay grade. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s a thing you like pitch yourself for\u2026but yeah, I think it\u2019s time for something like that to happen, and whoever it is, I\u2019m going to be just pumped for country music.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLater on in the conversation, Combs addressed Super Bowl Halftime Show decision-makers, saying, \u201cWe\u2019re all waiting\u2026make the call. One of us is ready.\u201d When asked if he would perform during a Super Bowl Halftime Show, his reply was instant: \u201cHell yeah, I would do it.
