\n\tLudwig G\u00f6ransson<\/a>\u2019s victory for best original score for Sinners<\/em> at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday Feb. 22 increases the already strong odds that he\u2019ll win the Oscar in the same category on March 15. G\u00f6ransson\u2019s score had previously won at the Critics Choice Awards, the Golden Globes and the Grammys, among other precursor awards.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis year\u2019s other nominees for best original score are Jerskin Fendrix for Bugonia<\/em>, Alexandre Desplat <\/a>for Frankenstein<\/em>, Max Richter<\/a> for Hamnet<\/em> and Jonny Greenwood<\/a> for One Battle After Another<\/em>. This is Desplat\u2019s 12th nomination in the category, the third for both Greenwood and G\u00f6ransson, Fendrix\u2019s second and the first for Richter.<\/p>\n

\n\tA sign of G\u00f6ransson\u2019s dominance this year is that he is the only composer who is nominated for both best original score and best original song. He shares a song nod with Raphael Saadiq<\/a> for \u201cI Lied to You\u201d from Sinners<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnother sign: This marks the first time that G\u00f6ransson has been nominated for both best original score and best original song in the same year. He had a previous song nomination, for \u201cLift Me Up\u201d from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever<\/em>, but he wasn\u2019t nominated for that score.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with Conan O\u2019Brien<\/a> hosting for the second year in a row. An award for best casting will be presented for the first time, bringing the total number of competitive Oscar categories to 24 \u2013 about one-quarter of the number of Grammy Awards presented this year (95).<\/p>\n

\n\tIf G\u00f6ransson does win the Oscar, he\u2019ll set these six records.<\/p>\n
