\n\tFoo Fighters<\/a> frontman Dave Grohl has hinted at a return to Australia \u2014 and confirmed a new album is finished \u2014 during the band\u2019s one-off Tasmanian show<\/a> over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe U.S. rock veterans played a sold-out marathon set at UTAS Stadium<\/a> in Launceston on Saturday (Jan. 24), marking their first Tasmanian performance in more than a decade and their debut concert in the state\u2019s second-largest city. The show, which ran close to three hours, was the band\u2019s only Australian date on the current visit.<\/p>\n

\n\tLate in the set, Grohl addressed the crowd with a major update on the band\u2019s next chapter, confirming that Foo Fighters have recently completed work on a new record.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe might have a whole new record of f***ing songs that we just finished the other day,\u201d Grohl told the audience, delivering the first public confirmation that a follow-up to 2023\u2019s But Here We Are<\/em> is complete.<\/p>\n

\n\tGrohl also hinted strongly that fans won\u2019t have to wait long to see the band back on Australian soil.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis won\u2019t be the last time you see us,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ll be back here sooner than you think\u2026 and it\u2019s before my next birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGrohl\u2019s birthday falls on Jan. 14, suggesting Foo Fighters could return to Australia before the end of 2026, though no official tour dates have yet been announced.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Tasmania performance carried additional emotional weight, marking one of the band\u2019s most high-profile Australian appearances since the passing of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022. But Here We Are<\/em> \u2014 Foo Fighters\u2019 11th studio album \u2014 debuted at No. 1 in Australia and became one of the group\u2019s most critically acclaimed releases to date.<\/p>\n

\n\tOther notable moments from the Launceston show included an appearance by Brent Webb, the Australian miner who made international headlines in 2006 after requesting an iPod loaded with Foo Fighters songs while trapped underground.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen the show was first announced, Grohl described the decision to play a single regional Australian date as part of the band\u2019s ongoing love affair with the country.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe have a very special relationship with Tasmania \u2014 as we do with all of Australia,\u201d Grohl said at the time. \u201cTo come down and have a special night is amazing\u2026 even though we\u2019re literally flying down for 48 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n
