\n\t2Pac<\/a> is the one that got away for Mariah Carey.<\/a> Mimi joined Power 106\u2019s Brown Bag Mornings<\/em> on Tuesday (Aug. 26), where she recalled an encounter with the late Death Row rapper at the 1996 American Music Awards, which made her heart skip a beat. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWell, he said it like \u2018Hi, Mariah,\u2019 and I was like [ahhh],\u201d she said of the brief interaction with 2Pac after he jumped out of a white Rolls-Royce, which left her with \u201cmore than butterflies.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tShe continued: \u201cI was hosting the AMAs that year so I had to keep going back and forth, but I wanted to keep going back and forth because that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI love hip-hop and I love the moments that we\u2019re talking about, especially \u2018Hi, Mariah.\u2019 So yeah, it was a pretty major moment for me to say the least,\u201d the singer said before adding she definitely wanted to collaborate with Pac on a song. <\/p>\n \n\tCo-host Letty Peniche gushed about Mariah and 2Pac being the ultimate celebrity power couple if they ever had the chance to date. \u201cI wish,\u201d Carey bluntly replied. <\/p>\n \n\tWhile the pair of music icons never joined forces on a track, Mariah did interpolate Pac\u2019s \u201cMe and My Girlfriend\u201d on 1999\u2019s \u201cHow Much,\u201d following the rapper\u2019s death in September 1996.<\/p>\n \n\tSeptember is gearing up to be a busy month for Mariah Carey, who will be receiving the honor of the Video Vanguard Award<\/a> at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards<\/a>.
