\n\tAt one point in the early 2010s, Bryson Tiller<\/a> was ready to sign with Drake\u2019s <\/a>OVO label, but eventually joined RCA Records instead. It\u2019s been a decade since Tiller\u2019s Trapsoul<\/em> debut, and his career is still crossing paths with the 6 God, as they teamed up for \u201cOutta Time\u201d in 2020.<\/p>\n \n\tThe Louisville native sat down with New Rory & Mal <\/em>for the episode that posted Thursday (Aug. 21), during which Tiller was candid on the reason why he never joined OVO.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI\u2019m being so blunt. Honest,\u201d he began. \u201cThe only reason\u00a0I didn\u2019t sign [to OVO]\u00a0is just because\u00a0bro didn\u2019t hit me back one time. This was in a moment when my label, like, they was hounding me, they was flying me, they was trying to get me away from Drake.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe singer continued, \u201cI was like, \u2018Yo, OVO is really in my blood, for real.\u2019 I really have studied [Drake\u2019s] catalog.\u00a0There\u2019s a couple of people that I really consider huge strands of my musical DNA, and Drake is one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBryson admitted he even sent Drake a final text giving him another chance before putting pen to paper at RCA.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cHe never hit back,\u201d Tiller added. \u201cAnd I know he\u2019s a super busy dude. I\u2019m not saying that he didn\u2019t want me to sign or whatever, but at that moment, like, I had a kid \u2014 people back home that\u2019s looking at me like, \u2018Is he gonna do it? Is he gonna make it?\u2019 So I had to go with what was the most sure shot.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe conversation then moved into what Tiller\u2019s career would have looked like if he had ended up becoming part of the OVO family. But as far as fame goes, the 32-year-old was totally cool with being out of the spotlight and working in the background as part of Drake\u2019s team. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWhen people would say, \u2018Oh [Drake\u2019s]\u00a0gonna put you on the shelf, be in the sweatshop,\u2019 I was like, \u2018Cool. I\u2019m cool with that.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Dog, I know how to write. I\u2019ll write anything\u00a0that he asks me to do and be just as rich,’\u201d he said. \u201cIf you could take away all my fame right now, nobody recognize me, I\u2019ll be so OK with it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThese days, on the music side, Tiller dropped off his The Vices<\/em> project, which is one-half of a double-disc, with Solace <\/em>coming on Oct. 2. <\/p>\n \n\tWatch the clip with Bryson Tiller below.<\/p>\n
