\n\tKevin Parker has made good on his promise to release new Tame Impala, delivering a new single as the ostensible first taste of a forthcoming LP.<\/p>\n
\n\tDubbed \u201cEnd of Summer,\u201d the seven-minute track arrives as Tame Impala\u2019s first release via their new home at Columbia Records. While its release is transitional, so too is its sound, with Parker leaning on the history of dance music to recast the project as \u201ckind of future primitive rave act,\u201d per a press release.<\/p>\n
\n\tWhile prominently featuring Parker\u2019s trademark vocals, \u201cEnd of Summer\u201d is an undeniable shift from the main focus of previous Tame Impala records, though serves as something of a logical evolution of what had been teased thanks to the disco elements of 2015\u2019s Currents<\/em> and 2020\u2019s The Slow Rush<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tThe release of the track also comes accompanied by a Julian Klincewicz-directed visual, which pairs rapid-fire images with grainy footage of Parker both performing the track and in various locations.<\/p>\n \n\tParker first previewed<\/a> \u201cEnd of Summer\u201d during a surprise DJ set in Barcelona\u2019s Nitsa Club in early June. \u201cYou guys want to hear a new song? \u201cYou want to hear a new Tame Impala song?\u201d he asked the crowd. \u201cYou\u2019re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realize? There\u2019s no going back from this point on, you realize?\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tEarlier in July, Parker also shared a series of photos to Instagram in which he teased a forthcoming album<\/a>. Soon after, an untitled 12\u2033 vinyl record was added to the Tame Impala web store which promptly sold out.<\/p>\n \n\tThough press materials don\u2019t describe \u201cEnd of Summer\u201d as a preview of Tame Impala\u2019s fifth album, Parker\u2019s recent Instagram post features a whiteboard filled with album tracks, including one which appears to be \u201cEnd of Summer.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tIn the time since 2020\u2019s The Slow Rush<\/em>, Parker has been busy with myriad other projects. In 2023, second album Lonerism<\/em> would receive a tenth anniversary reissue, and would be followed by the release of the track \u201cJourney to the Real World\u201d for the Barbie<\/em> soundtrack.<\/p>\n \n\tAdditionally, Tame Impala would also be credited with remixes of songs from Crowded House and Elvis Presley, and would appear as a guest artist on cuts from Diana Ross<\/a> and Gorillaz<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tIn 2024, Parker would serve as a producer and guest musician for Dua Lipa<\/a>\u2018s Radical Optimism<\/em> album, and would also serve as a guest artist on two tracks from French outfit Justice<\/a>\u2018s Hyperdrama<\/em> album.
