\n\tColbie Caillat<\/a> was 22 when she first reached the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 with \u201cBubbly.\u201d \u00a0A string of upbeat Adult Contemporary smashes followed, including \u201cRealize,\u201d \u201cLucky,\u201d \u201cFallin\u2019 For You\u201d and \u201cBrighter Than the Sun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNow, more than 15 years later, Caillat is recasting her hits on This Time Around<\/em>, a duets album coming Aug. 29 that pairs her with Maren Morris<\/a>, Gavin DeGraw, Walker Hayes<\/a>, Chris Young, Russell Dickerson<\/a> and more. The set also includes three new songs, \u201cLive Without,\u201d \u201cCan\u2019t Say No\u201d and \u201cKinda Single.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFor Caillat, it was the realization of a project she\u2019d long wanted to tackle. \u201cI\u2019ve wanted to revisit some of my older singles for years, but never really carved out the time. My voice has matured a lot since I recorded them in my early 20s, and so has my production style and musical taste,\u201d says Caillat, who is now 40. \u201cMaking them duets felt like a fun way to reimagine the songs and bring in fresh energy through collaborations with some of my favorite artists.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCaillat moved to Nashville and crossed over to country with her quartet Gone West, which disbanded in 2020. She recorded the duets in person in Nashville with most of the artists joining her in the studio with exceptions being Jason Mraz<\/a>, who recorded his vocals in California for their remake of 2009\u2019s \u201cLucky,\u201d which originally appeared on Mraz\u2019s album, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things<\/em>; and Amos Lee, who recorded his part in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEach artist brought something unique. Being in the studio with Maren Morris was unreal \u2014 she\u2019s one of my all-time favorite vocalists,\u201d Caillat says. \u201cWalker Hayes brought such a positive, fun energy to the room, and working with him was a joy. And I\u2019m a longtime superfan of Lee Brice \u2014 getting to write with him and become friends was a true bucket-list moment. I absolutely love his voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe lone cover is Post Malone<\/a>\u2019s 2019 hit, \u201cCircles,\u201d although Caillat does have a long connection to the pop hit. \u201cThe melody is gorgeous, and the lyrics really hit home \u2014 I was in a relationship at the time that felt like that song was written for us,\u201d she says. \u201cI started playing it live at shows and loved how it sounded acoustically. Plus, it was easy to play on guitar, which made it even more fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe album will come out on Caillat\u2019s own Blue Jean Baby imprint, whose name, of course, pays homage to a lyric in Elton John\u2019s \u201cTiny Dancer,\u201d but also holds other meanings for Caillat. \u201cHonestly, I went through a list of about a thousand names that held personal meaning to me \u2014 and somehow, they were all taken,\u201d she says of the search for a label moniker. \u201cWhen it came down to the wire, I thought about how much I love the look and feel of denim. I said the name out loud, and it just stuck. Of course, I also realized it\u2019s a lyric from an iconic song we all know and love, which made it even better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tComing up, Caillat has another duet project coming up: She and DeGraw will embark on a short Christmas tour later this year, in addition to Caillat playing her own shows.<\/p>\n
