\n\tDoja Cat<\/a> is coming. The Grammy-winning artist graced the cover of V<\/em> magazine<\/a> on Tuesday (July 1), which sets the stage for her anticipated Vie <\/em>album<\/a> arriving this fall. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile she faced backlash for saying in her 2023 cover for the same magazine that making \u201cpalatable, marketable and sellable\u201d music didn\u2019t allow her a \u201cmental release,\u201d Doja reveals her upcoming LP is a \u201cpop-driven project.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project,\u201d she said. \u201cI know that I can make pop music, and pop is just that it\u2019s popular. It starts to become a bit of a thing that\u2019s viewed as a sport by people who are just bystanders to it, who enjoy it, but maybe also don\u2019t respect it or what it is, which is just\u00a0music<\/em> \u2026 They see it as if this is some kind of football for girls and gays.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough the project is pop-leaning, the publication points out that there\u2019s plenty of rapping from Doja across Vie<\/em>. The 29-year-old has plenty to say about \u201clove\u201d and \u201cromance,\u201d but also reflects on how she wants her relationships to look in the future. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe concept is very pointed towards love, romance and sex \u2014 and discourse in relationships,\u201d Doja said. \u201cReally just relationships in general, and relationships with yourself, even. I think right now, you hear a lot of songs about breakups, and a lot of songs about how we\u2019re just kind of sick of men. I have a song like that on this album. But the thing is, there are so many ways to talk about that feeling \u2014 like,\u00a0ugh<\/em>, men.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe continued: \u201cThis album is very much about love in a way that reflects how I want it to be in the future \u2014 my hope, my hopefulness. What I hope it could be. Because I remember there was a time when people were talking about wanting to be with each other, and it seems to have gotten a bit more vapid and just sort of like, not real \u2026 Not loving, not romantic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEven if her first-week sales dip, Doja Cat wants to embrace the unknown of what\u2019s ahead, but be happy with the product she released into the world. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat I want to avoid is that little monster that just wants success,\u201d Doja added. \u201cI want to focus more on \u2018How does the mix sound? Do I even need these instruments here? Do I need to recut this verse?\u2019 It\u2019s how things sound that makes the music worth listening to. I would not be an artist if I didn\u2019t care, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe went on: \u201cIf for any reason a project of mine does a little less good than the last one, I don\u2019t want to be up in arms and upset about it. I want to embrace that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDoja has yet to give fans a taste of the album, but she\u2019s been active in recent months with an appearance on the <\/em>F1 <\/em>soundtrack<\/a> alongside Don Toliver<\/a> for \u201cLose My Mind,\u201d and she guested on Lizzo\u2019s rap-heavy \u201cSTILL CANT FUH.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tThe Los Angeles native\u2019s most recent album, Scarlet<\/em>, arrived in 2023, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.<\/a> Vie<\/em> is expected to hit streaming services in the autumn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
