\n\tThe 35-minute set marked a momentous occasion for the 28-year-old. His last full show<\/a> took place on the same stage at Glastonbury 2023, during which he struggled with a strained vocal cord and his Tourette\u2019s syndrome, which manifested in physical tics during most songs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThroughout his career, Capaldi has been open about his struggles with Tourette\u2019s syndrome, a condition of the nervous system that, according to the National Health Service, causes people to make sudden sounds or have involuntary body movements. In late 2022, he shared his diagnosis<\/a> in an Instagram post, telling followers that he was \u201clearning new ways to cope all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBy summer the following year, Capaldi had canceled all of his other live commitments in order to focus on Glastonbury, citing mental health struggles<\/a> as a \u201cdirect symptom\u201d <\/a>of his job, which had spiraled into panic attacks. He addressed these issues on stage before finishing his set early due to his \u201cvoice packing in.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter taking to the Pyramid Stage at 4:55 p.m. BST, Capaldi was met with chants of his name as he launched into \u201cBefore You Go\u201d and \u201cGrace\u201d for the biggest crowd of the weekend so far. He was initially billed as a \u201cTBA\u201d on the festival\u2019s schedule, though rumors soon spread through the festival site that Capaldi would be making his return.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe discussed his journey back to the festival. \u201cIt\u2019s so good to be back. I\u2019m not gonna say much up here as I might start crying. It\u2019s amazing to be here with you and I can\u2019t thank you enough for coming out and seeing me,\u201d he told the crowd. \u201cSecond time\u2019s a charm with this one, eh? It\u2019s just a short set today and to finish what I couldn\u2019t finish the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the seven-song set, which included the debut performance of \u201cSurvive,\u201d he made clear how important the show was to him. \u201cThe last three years haven\u2019t been the best \u2014 they\u2019ve been difficult at times,\u201d he said while choking up. \u201c[\u2018Survive\u2019] is about overcoming stuff, and this has been my f-king goal to get back here,\u201d Capaldi said of the Pyramid Stage set.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe rounded off the set with \u201cForget Me\u201d and \u201cSomeone You Loved,\u201d the latter of which is the U.K.\u2019s most streamed song of all time, and hit No. 1<\/a> on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> in 2019. He ended the gig on a high-note, promising that \u201cI\u2019m f\u2013king back, baby\u201d to a rapturous response.<\/p>\n
