\n\tBritish singer, producer and songwriter PinkPantheress<\/a> sat down with Jake Shane for the latest episode of his viral podcast Therapuss<\/a><\/em>, where she discussed everything from her creative process and internet beginnings to her OCD and the evolution of her sound.<\/p>\n \n\tIn the hourlong episode, PinkPantheress\u2014born Victoria Walker\u2014spoke candidly about her earliest days making music, revealing that her now-iconic stage name came from a random game show moment. \u201cI was making a TikTok account,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI was watching a game show called The Chase<\/em> and the answer to one of the questions was Pantheress\u2026 I wanted to call myself that, but then it was taken. So I think pink in front of it. Like the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tShe also opened up about the production inspirations behind her \u201cTonight\u201d music video, citing Jamiroquai\u2019s \u201cKing for a Day\u201d and Madonna\u2019s 1989 Vogue<\/em> performance, and broke down the genre confusion surrounding her sound. \u201cA lot of people describe [my] music as hyperpop,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the genre is called drum and bass\u2026 or jungle\u2026 That\u2019s what Americans call hyperpop because it\u2019s very sped up. It\u2019s not that. But who makes the rules? No one makes the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tTouching on her OCD, PinkPantheress explained, \u201cI don\u2019t necessarily have many of the fears that you might have about certain things\u2026 I do have this thing where once I have a thought it loops, loops, loops for a month and it will never stop.\u201d She added, \u201cIf I don\u2019t consider myself a certain standard at what I\u2019m doing, I don\u2019t see the point doing it\u2026 That\u2019s something birthed from my OCD, by not being satisfied by anything less than perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tElsewhere in the episode, the artist shared stories about producing her Barbie <\/em>soundtrack standout \u201cAngel\u201d alongside Charlie Puth (\u201cHe\u2019s kind of like AI in a person musically\u201d), her micro phase of maladaptive daydreaming (\u201cI would act like I had a boyfriend around the house\u201d), and her evolving relationship with live performance.<\/p>\n \n\tPink also explained her shift from anonymity to showing her face publicly. \u201cI really did the whole, when I did the \u2018Boy\u2019s a Liar Pt. 2\u2019 video, that was when it was really \u2018This is her.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tShe\u2019s now embracing the spotlight more fully.
