\n\tIt\u2019s no coincidence that the two songs tied for most weeks atop the Billboard Hot\u00a0100<\/a> toe the line between country and rap. Lil Nas\u00a0X set the record with his Billy Ray Cyrus-featuring \u201cOld Town Road\u201d in 2019, and late last year, Shaboozey tied the record when \u201cA\u00a0Bar Song (Tipsy)\u201d hit the same 19-week mark.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCountry and rap might come from different worlds, but they thrive on the same foundation \u2014 raw storytelling and authenticity,\u201d UnitedMasters director of A&R Aaron Hunter says.<\/p>\n

\n\tHybrids of country and hip-hop have a long history in popular music, dating back to the 1980s including hits like Sir-Mix-A-Lot\u2019s \u201cSquare Dance Rap,\u201d Kool Moe Dee\u2019s \u201cWild Wild West\u201d and Shawn Brown\u2019s \u201cRappin\u2019 Duke\u201d (which The Notorious B.I.G. sampled in \u201cJuicy\u201d a decade later).<\/p>\n

\n\tThis year has brought an even bigger boom of successful crossovers between the genres. Post Malone\u2019s Big Ass Stadium Tour with Jelly Roll \u2014 two artists with roots in hip-hop now making country music \u2014 has so far featured special guests including Eminem and Quavo. Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug teamed with Bailey Zimmerman for \u201cAll the Way,\u201d a top five hit on the Hot\u00a0100, while ERNEST and Snoop Dogg released their country collaboration, \u201cGettin\u2019 Gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the festival front, the country-heavy Stagecoach was more rap-inclusive in 2025, with Nelly and T-Pain playing to major audiences. Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen\u2019s Sand in My Boots Festival had Wiz Khalifa, 2\u00a0Chainz and Three\u00a06 Mafia onstage.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBoth genres share the same theme of heartbreak, life stories and struggle, whether it\u2019s rural life or urban \u00adhustle, and that grit creates a natural connection,\u201d \u00adHunter says. He also points to the rising use of trap drums and 808s in country and rap, which has \u201cblurred lines, making collaborations feel less forced and more like a shared language.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBigXthaPlug will follow the success of \u201cAll the Way\u201d with a country-trap project this summer that will include guest appearances from Jelly Roll, Post Malone and Shaboozey. Even though the Dallas native never listened to country music growing up, he has felt a warm welcome from the Nashville community. \u201cMy fan base is the country world\u2019s fan base,\u201d he says. \u201cThey was messing with me, [but] now it\u2019s a full acceptance.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
