\n\tIn an joint interview with Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em>, the happy couple said that while they are super psyched to plan their wedding \u2014 \u201cI think every day she\u2019s planned a new wedding in her head\u201d said Blanco \u2014 for now, they are focusing on promoting and talking about the LP due out this Friday (March 21). <\/p>\n

\n\tOn her first album since 2020\u2019s Rare<\/em>, Gomez said the sessions were the \u201cmost intimate\u201d she\u2019s ever had in a studio, helped by the fact that she was working with her beloved and their trusted group of friends and collaborators. \u201cWe did everything from home, and we created it with people that we love,\u201d she said, citing a re-team with songwriters Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, who she worked with a decade ago on her Billboard Hot 100 No. 5 hit \u201cGood For You.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd while the seating arrangements for their nuptials are not being worked out just yet, Blanco said the sessions were a love-filled supplement to their relationship. \u201cI hadn\u2019t seen her excited about music for a long time. And I remember she was like, \u2018I have to pull over the car because I\u2019m so happy,\u2019\u201d Blanco said. \u201cAnd then I knew at that moment. I was like, \u2018Well, if it\u2019s making both of us happy, then hopefully it makes a few other people happy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGomez said she was \u201cvery frustrated and kind of confused\u201d about where she wanted to go next musically, confiding in Blanco that she wasn\u2019t sure what her sound is now. Luckily, 11-time Grammy nominee producer\/songwriter Blanco was there, with a pad and pen, writing down whatever was on Sel\u2019s mind as soon as she woke up, then jumping right into their home studio to make it a reality. \u201cIt was such a cathartic and therapeutic experience,\u201d he said of the sessions they purposely kept \u201creally close to the chest\u201d so that they could write \u201cexactly how we wanted it and to feel exactly now we wanted it to feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter the success of her 2019 No. 1 hit \u201cLose You to Love Me\u201d Gomez, 32, said she realized that storytelling was her strength and that her vocal sweet spot was in a lower register with a softer tone. Plus, given Blanco\u2019s platinum status contact list, roping in current chart queens like Gracie Abrams (as well as Billie Eilish collaborator and older brother Finneas for two songs) was easy, and made perfect sense.<\/p>\n

\n\tBlanco has known the \u201cThat\u2019s So True\u201d singer since she was 14 \u2014 she used to date one of his close friends \u2014 so when it came to inviting Abrams, 25, into their circle of trust to record \u201cCall Me When You Break Up\u201d he said it was not only a slam dunk, but seemingly meant to be. \u201cOne day, me and Selena were just talking about stuff, and Selena started following her, and they started commenting on each other\u2019s things \u2026 She has so many unique characteristics about her, but she also has so many similar ones to Selena,\u201d he said of Abrams. \u201cWhen they hang out, they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh my god, we\u2019re like, the same person.\u2019 And they\u2019re both little hermits that want to stay in and they\u2019re both pretty shy, but somehow turn it on and become the biggest stars in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the shoot for the song\u2019s video, Blanco said the two women had what he described as \u201calmost like telepathy\u201d when they were talking to each other, with Gomez easily slipping into the big sister role. \u201cAnd low-key, I got cool points from my little sister for having her on [the album],\u201d Gomez added.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ease of the sessions also helped produce one of Gomez\u2019s cheekiest love songs to date, the lascivious \u201cSunset Blvd.<\/a>\u201d which is simply dripping with innuendo that Blanco said had them laughing during the sessions. \u201c\u2018Can we really get away with it? Is this really something we\u2019re gonna do?’\u201d he remembered asking. \u201cThat\u2019s when the best moments come out. A lot of artists won\u2019t do stuff like that. And Selena has the perfect way of dipping her toe in the water of, like, almost too far, but not \u2014 but, like, is it? And it\u2019s because she\u2019s so multifaceted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGomez said that toe-dipping came as a result of her being more comfortable playing around with lyrics that she used to be, crediting acts like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Abrams and Charli XCX for giving her \u201ca little bit more freedom to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tClearly at ease in each other\u2019s company, Gomez said the title of the album perfectly describes their relationship and \u201cembodies his stories combined with my stories,\u201d while also leaving some things unsaid. \u201cThey have meanings that are really just personal to both of us,\u201d he said. \u201cSo one song could actually mean two different things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt this point, Blanco said he\u2019s just \u201chappy to be along for the ride\u201d thanks to his \u201cput me in, coach\u201d attitude about his professional and personal relationship with Gomez. \u201cI\u2019m doing whatever it takes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThanks to the \u201cmassive\u201d marquise-cut diamond ring Blanco slipped on Gomez\u2019s finger in December, it\u2019s only natural that questions about their wedding plans keep coming up. Blanco said they\u2019re just taking things one day at a time for now, even as Gomez can\u2019t stop staring at the sparkler. \u201cI genuinely feel like this is such a special time that we get to apply it to this album and really just pour our heart into it, and completely translate what we feel and bring it to the world,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s my main focus right now, at least.\u201d<\/p>\n
