\n\tRema<\/a>\u2018s latest single \u201cBaby (Is It a Crime)\u201d made a lot of noise last November when the Afrobeats star first teased<\/a> it with its super-recognizable sample of Sade<\/a>\u2018s 1985 hit \u201cIs It a Crime.\u201d The English band, led by quiet storm icon Sade Adu, has been a source of inspiration (and sample material) for plenty of R&B singers, rappers and Afrobeats artists over the decades.<\/p>\n \n\tRema isn\u2019t the only Nigerian artist who\u2019s paid homage to the British-Nigerian frontwoman (real name Helen Folasade Adu). Burna Boy<\/a> interpolated the band\u2019s 1985 classic \u201cThe Sweetest Taboo\u201d 35 years later on his Sauti Sol-featuring track \u201cTime Flies.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhile MF DOOM<\/a> has sampled Sade\u2019s timeless records like \u201cIs It a Crime\u201d and \u201cKiss of Life,\u201d indie U.K. producer Seanh2k11 fused their brilliance on his 2016 mashup EP Sadevillain<\/a><\/em> (\u00e0 la MF Doom and Madlib\u2019s 2004 joint album Madvillainy<\/em>). Snoop Dogg<\/a>, who has interpolated \u201cSmooth Operator\u201d in two different songs and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame<\/a> alongside Sade in 2023, said he \u201cwould love to smoke\u201d with her and \u201chopefully get a record out of her, too\u201d while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a> <\/em>last month.<\/p>\n
